A veterinary clinic in the Virginia Beach, Virginia area received a $4.5 million federal grant, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.
The VA Virginia Beach Medical Center is one of six medical centers that received the federal grant that provides $5.2 million to help with operating costs and pay for veterinary clinics.
The Virginia Beach Veterinary Clinic, which is a nonprofit, also received $4,000 in state funds for the 2017-18 fiscal year.
The rest of the grant was earmarked for operating costs, according the VA.
Veterinary clinics are among the most expensive in the country and receive the largest amount of federal funding.
In 2018, more than $12.4 billion was given to all US health care providers.
